Choosing From 2015 Acura RLX Models

December 9th, 2014 by

If you’ve decided on a brand new 2015 Acura RLX, you’ll have at your disposal one of the most advanced and powerful engines Acura has ever made, and it will be 2015-acura-rlxwrapped up in a luxurious four-door sedan with some of the latest in automotive technology. Obviously, we love the RLX here at Wisconsin Acura Dealers, but which of the 2015 Acura RLX models is right for you?

We’re going to go over the main differences for you so that you can make the right choice for your next Acura.

Regular or Sport Hybrid?

The first thing we think we need to clear up is that the word “hybrid” is typically associated with low-power cars, but all it really means is that the engine uses a combination of electric and gasoline motors. And Acura engineers have found a way to make hybrid engines more powerful than their gasoline counterparts:

  • The 2015 RLX has a 310-hp V6 engine under the hood, earning an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 31 mpg on the highway.*
  • The 2014 RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD, on the other hand, has the same V6 engine but then incorporates three electric motors to boost the combined power up to 377 hp and deliver an EPA-estimated highway fuel economy of 32 mpg.*

While there are other differences between these two cars, we do think that this is one of the biggest. The Sport Hybrid not only has Acura’s incomparable Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system delivering power to all four wheels, it manages a higher fuel economy and a greater power output as well.

The RLX Sport Hybrid also adds on a set of noise-reducing 19-inch wheels, an electronic gear selector, a heads-up display, and even a unique accelerator that is designed to encourage fuel-efficient driving.
