2017 Acura MDX Safety Features Prevent and Protect

  • Acura MDX

At Wisconsin Acura Dealers, we know that the 2017 Acura MDX safety features are a top priority for many of our drivers. As a seven-passenger crossover, Acura’s famous SUV is one of our most popular family vehicle options, and we are proud to say that its safety features are state-of-the-art, including active safety, passive safety, and driver assistance features.

Active Safety

Safety features like parking sensors, blind-spot information monitors, and a rear cross-traffic alert system work together with these active safety technologies to ensure that you’re in control of the MDX and aware of your surroundings.

Acura MDX

Vehicle Stability Assist: This safety feature detects losses of traction and independently adjusts wheel speeds and engine torque to bring stability to the MDX and counteract oversteer or understeer.

Acura MDX

Anti-Lock Braking System: During hard braking, the anti-lock braking system automatically pumps the brakes to keep them from locking up in situations of low traction.

Acura MDX

Electronic Brake Distribution: This safety feature ensures that each set of brakes applies force to slow all the wheels at the same rate, avoiding traction imbalances and loss of control.

Acura MDX

Multi-Angle Rearview Camera: Shift into reverse and the standard multi-angle camera puts a view of what’s behind the MDX front and center on the in-dash display so you can back up with confidence. An available surround-view camera system offers a look in all four directions before leaving a driveway or parking spot.

Acura MDX

Tire Pressure Monitoring System: If any of the MDX tires are noticeably deflated, the TPMS will light up on the dash and indicate that it’s time to check for leaks and fill up with air.

Acura MDX

Daytime Running Lights: Standard daytime running lights make it easier for other drivers to see your MDX on the road and operate even when your headlights are off.

Passive Safety

Sometimes referred to as “reactive” safety measures, these safety features are built in to the MDX and work to protect passengers during an accident. The general goal of passive safety technologies is to keep a passenger secure in their seat and reduce the risk of energy from the accident impacting anyone in the vehicle.

  • Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure: Safety starts with the frame of the MDX, built to be simultaneously durable and responsive. Built-in crumple zones work to actively direct energy away from the cabin and keep passengers safe.
  • Seat Belts: Standard three-point seat belts are found in every seating position to keep you secure in the event of an accident.
  • Airbags: A suite of airbags features protection for passengers in all rows, with front, side, and side curtain airbags that are engineered to deploy with the right amount of force for a given accident.

Driver-Assist Technology

The advanced AcuraWatch Plus safety features have been made standard, added to the list of 2017 Acura MDX safety features found on every model. The result is a state-of-the-art luxury crossover that includes some of the latest in driver assistance and accident prevention technologies:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control: Radar sensors on the MDX detect the velocity of other vehicles and adjust cruising speeds automatically so you can focus on the drive without needing to constantly adjust cruise settings.
  • Forward Collision Warning: The Adaptive Cruise Control radar sensors serve a double purpose, detecting when the MDX is approaching a vehicle too quickly. If it senses a collision is likely, this safety system issues a warning to alert the driver of a potential accident.
  • Collision Mitigation Braking: If the driver fails to respond to the Forward Collision Warning system promptly, the standard Collision Mitigation Braking System can automatically apply the brakes to slow or stop the MDX.
  • Lane Departure Warning: A forward-facing camera monitors the markings on the pavement and issues an alert to the driver if it senses the MDX is drifting from its lane.
  • Lane Keeping Assist: If the driver fails to respond to the Lane Departure Warning, this safety system can actually give the wheel a nudge to re-center it in the lane and keep the MDX on the straight and narrow.
  • Road Departure Mitigation: A monocular camera keeps an eye out for common markers for the side of the road and provides alerts, steering assist, and braking assist to keep the MDX from heading out of its lane and/or off the road.
