Does the 2016 Audi A3 MPG Take You Far Enough?
No one wants their new sedan to be weighed down by poor gas mileage. To help you separate the important details from the flash and the hype that saturate today’s market, we’ve taken a look at two competitive, luxurious sedans: the 2016 Audi A3 and the 2017 Acura ILX. Audi has a reputation for quality engineering, but in terms of mpg and engine performance, the A3 comes in far behind the impressive ILX! Read on to find out why discerning drivers are sticking with Acura.
Under the Hood
Owning a luxury car shouldn’t be about impressing the neighbors or making a statement. Your next sedan should help you to go further in greater comfort, and no car manufacturer knows this better than Acura. Don’t be fooled by the lower price of the 2017 ILX; Acura still maintains an mpg advantage over the 2016 A3 in both city and highway driving scenarios! The ILX gets an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway,* as compared to the Audi A3’s 23 city/33 highway mpg.
Acura is able to offer these advantages without sacrificing engine performance. The i-VTEC 2.4L I4 engine that comes equipped on the ILX base trim is capable of generating 201 hp. By contrast, the Audi’s smaller 1.8L I4 will only reach hp up to 170. What’s more, paddle shifters come standard on the base trim of the ILX. If you want the same feature on the base trim of the A3, you’re going to have to pay extra!
Oftentimes, a lower starting price means that you’ll be getting a smaller selection of standard features, but that’s certainly not true for the 2017 ILX. Drivers who go with the A3’s base trim will miss out on the ILX’s voice-activated controls, noise cancellation technology, push-start ignition, and LED headlights!
The Advantage Is Clear!
The engineers at Acura have integrated a great engine into an exceptional design, and the 2017 ILX is the clear winner in terms of mpg. Once you’ve seen some of the other ways the ILX wins out over the 2016 Audi A3, call or stop by one of our Wisconsin Acura Dealers to schedule a test drive today!
